Payroll Director

Department: Accounting/Finance
Location: remote, VA

Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group is seeking a Payroll Director

The Payroll Director manages the overall corporate payroll functions including employee time and attendance, payroll processing, payroll taxes, effective policies and procedures, internal controls, and system review and upgrade. Maintains needed vendor relationships and compliance, ensures payroll tax payments are in compliance with applicable laws, provide reconciled general ledger reports to accounting. Hire, mentor, discipline, conduct performance appraisals, and (if needed) terminate payroll employees.  This position is remote-capable.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Ensure that all payrolls are accurate for several locations and 1000+ employees.
  • Lead, manage, direct, and train the payroll team.
  • Comply with tax withholding and payments to Federal, State, and local agencies.
  • Audit the payroll function.
  • Analyze processes and implement improvements.
  • Manage the payrollís regulatory compliance
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements: The qualifications and requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of this position satisfactorily. Education /Experience Skills 

  • College degree with an accounting major or minor with classes or exposure to salary administration.
  • 5+ years of payroll management/supervisory experience is required.
  • 5-8+ years experience of processing large payrolls (1000+ employees) is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Professional presentation skills capable of effective problem-solving with strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret governmental regulations and professional journals.
  • Proficient in reading, understanding, and writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to assertively communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of management and employees.
  • Knowledge of payroll regulations and requirements.
  • Experience processing multi-state payroll, preferably in a large employer environment.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and mail merge.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, ratios and proportions and apply to practical situations.
  • Excellent typing and customer service skills.
  • A high degree of confidentiality is required to work with, safeguard and control confidential information.
  • Must be motivated and reliable with a reputation for maintaining confidentiality.
  • Must have high moral character and ethics.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • ADP experience is preferred.
